About Us

Local Astronauts Co founders

Local Astronauts is a Los Angeles–based songwriting and production collective founded in Inglewood, CA, in 2016 by Kenrick

“PolyRob” Mejia and Badru Umi (BADRU / GoodKingBad). Built at the intersection of culture, craftsmanship, and strategy, Local

Astronauts delivers forward-thinking music designed to move audiences—and brands.

At the creative core, PolyRob serves as Lead Producer, known for a dynamic, multi-genre sound rooted in gritty textures, rich

musicality, and heavy-hitting low end. BADRU leads creative direction and execution, shaping concepts, refining performances, and

curating lyrical and vocal collaborations to ensure each project reaches its full potential. Together, they offer artists, brands, and media

partners a seamless end-to-end creative experience—from idea to final delivery.

Local Astronauts has collaborated with a diverse range of influential artists across Hip-Hop, Alternative, and R&B, including Method

Man, Robert Glasper, Conway The Machine, Larry June, Jay Worthy, Aceyalone, Papoose, Planet Asia, The Outlawz, Cali Swag

District, and many more. Their work has also been placed across major film and television platforms, with sync placements on projects

such as Netflix’s The Package, FOX’s Shots Fired, L.A.’s Finest (FOX / Netflix), and additional network and streaming releases.

The foundation of Local Astronauts is deeply rooted in Los Angeles’ creative lineage. PolyRob and BADRU first connected in the early

2000s at Project Blowed in Leimert Park—one of the most influential hip-hop incubators in the world. PolyRob emerged as a rapper-

producer while developing alongside industry leaders through 319 Music, while BADRU brought executive-level experience from roles

at Def Jam, Interscope, and Priority Records, later serving as General Manager of Project Blowed Recordings / Decon Media and

managing respected legacy artists.

In 2019, Local Astronauts expanded into a full creative collective focused on artist development, curated collaborations, and

scalable content creation. The collective now includes standout producers Tony Ozier, Solini, and Dae One, alongside vocalists A1

Krashn, LeGree Shine and Lovey Jean. The team consistently releases collaborative projects with artists such as T.F., Meaku, and

an extended roster of emerging and established talent.

Today, Local Astronauts operates as a creative hub and trusted partner for artists, brands, and media companies seeking authentic

sound, strategic execution, and culturally relevant impact—bridging underground credibility with mainstream reach.
